hey!!!!!! for those of you that struggle with any type of mental illness, or even if ur just having a bad time lately, i really really recommend getting one of these, a travel sized notebook. this lil beat up notebook i hav is host to many many mANY ugly rants, magazine photos, things tht ppl hav said to me, poetry, doodles and basically whatever the fuck i want.
now for venting emotional release, most ppl either use their blog, friends, listening to music, etc which is great!! the things you want to avoid are the hurtful coping mechanisms like self harm, keepin it all inside, or ant of tht other nasty stuff. if ur doin any of the harmful stuff, then i really really recommend doing this.
you can put whatever you want in ur book, its all yours; a place to store your thoughts and chronicle your emotional growth.
if ur pissed: scribble in it, write ur rants in it, draw whats pissing u off and then rip it up, take a page and stab at it w ur pencil. basically just fuckin go at it, take it out on ur book instead of urself
if ur sad: write about it, try to capture what youre feeling in a drawing or scribble or watercolor etc, u wanna self harm?? dont!!! do it to the paper instead like go at it w a red pen if that would help, if youre feeling so depressed u can barely even pick up the pen then just do what you can. its getting the feelings out that counts. try to transfer them to the paper and when ur done just shut the book, its gone, you got it out and dont hav to worry about it anymore congrats you rock!!!!!!!!
ya freakin out???: hmm anxiety, it sucks. what helps me is literally just write down everything thats bothering me, as specific as possible, list it, draw it, whatever. just get those intrusive thoughts out of ur head and into the book, then just slam it shut it like one of those monster books from harry potter. if its in there it cant hurt ya! if ur stressed cus school deadlines etc what i do is make lists. so many god damn lists. make them as specific as possible and include everything (for example if ur writing an essay: cre8 thesis, find supports,draft the outline, do the topic sentence of each body paragraph) make everything as specific as possible, into easy to swallow pieces, if you do this then you can cross of all these things off ur list super fast and it feels better bc u can see the progress you made. this also works if ur just feelin overwhelmed
now that you got everything out, u gotta put some positive stuff in there!!!
cut out pix u like in magazines, write down compliments you get, if u saw 2 dogs on ur way to school and it made u happy, WRITE THT DOWN!! (or doodle, w/e u want!) list songs tht make u feel better, songs that make u feel like a bad ass etc, make a playlist 4 every situation! make ur book look pretty w tons of post its and stickers and tape! do what makes you happy, this should be a resource for you as well as a place to vent
