One time my friend Nick asked me if I was on my period while I was in the middle of a feminist rant about reproductive rights, and I gave him this speech about never assuming a woman is on her period because then she is free to actually murder you. He looked at me, checked his phone, held it out to me with the date open, and said “No…I mean, it’s the thirteenth. You said you always get your period on the thirteenth. Sorry, I forgot to bring you cookies.” He was actually 100% right and I had told him that about four months before, without ever mentioning it again. This was the one time that someone accusing me of being on my period turned out to be one of the sweetest things ever.
